This book is a very general account of what the author thinks But this book was so expensive and does not offer any new information on the subject that I had to write this review.

This groundbreaking study looks beyond biblical texts, which have had a powerful influence over our views of women's roles and worth, in order to reconstruct the typical everyday lives of women in ancient Israel. Carol Meyers argues that biblical sources alone do not give a true picture of ancient Israelite women because urban elite males wrote the vast majority of the scriptural texts.

New York: Oxford University Press, pp. In the preface, Carol Meyers explains that her original goal was to produce a revised edition of her book. I think this is a well-written book that serves as a good introduction to the Bible, especially for skeptics.

But at the same time, it may be disturbing to many Christians. Here are a few quotes from Making Sense of the Bible. "Jesus is the decisive, definitive, unmitigated word of God." ()Cited by: 1.

Rediscovering Eve: Ancient Israelite Women in Context is a revision of Carol Meyers’ work, Discovering Eve (Oxford), a feminist study that garnered much praise and enthusiasm in feminist biblical studies. Meyers aims to reconsider in context “Eden Eve,” the first woman in Genesis 2–3, and “Everywoman Eve,” the average Israelite.

The book argues that biblical sources alone do not give a true picture of ancient Israelite women because urban elite males wrote the vast majority of the scriptural texts, and the stories of women in the Bible concern exceptional individuals rather than ordinary Israelite women.
